Q) How can I make a gerbil cage cat proof? My cat got into my gerbil cage, they are okay and did not get hurt but I want to be able to leave my bedroom door open without this happening.

A) Use a lid and make sure its secure.

A) Solid aluminum screens are the best
There are two types of screen typical sold in hardware stores, one is made fiberglass (A bit like cloth) and the other is aluminum. The aluminum one is the best however it can still be damaged. Some pet stores also sell window screen that are damage resistant. You could also try spraying the screens with a cat repellent and use a refillable water sprayers then when you catch the cats in the act give them a blast and eventually they will be put off.


Q) How can I block my unused chimneys so my cats won’t climb up them?
I need to block off my chimney at the bottom. Newspaper, straw or chimney balloons don’t work as my cats simply pulls them out out destroys them.

A) You will need to secure some wire mesh at the bottom of the chimney Choose a mesh thats bendable but stiff from a DIY store and cut it about 2 inched bigger than the chimney. Then push it up in the center so that it wedges in.


Q) Is there a way to cat-proof a balcony?
It’s on the 18th floor. It’s solid concrete so there’s no bars and you can’t see through it. The ledge is around four to six inches wide so I know my cat would jump on there. Is there a way I can cat-proof it without putting up a big fence or net?

A) No you will need to restrict access to the balcony for your cat.
Unfortunately short of building a wire cage on the balcony as you suggested you will need to restrict the cats access to this space.


Q) How can I cat proof my garden fence to keep my cat safe?
I have a 30 foot garden which is fully fenced that I want to stop my cat climbing over the top of. Is there any way I can prevent this.
